5 times Boba Fett Survived the Sarlacc Pit

In the recent episodes of Book of Boba Fett on Disney+, we learned how Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc Pit but did you know his survival was portrayed 5 times previously in “Star Wars Legends”?.

1. Marvel Star Wars #81

Published in 1983, and takes place 4 ABY (After Battle of Yavin), Written by Mary Jo Duffy and art by Ron Frenz, this first story had a lot of elements that seem to match the in-canon version on Disney+.  6 months after the release of Star Wars Return of the Jedi and 4 years ABY (After the Battle of Yavin) Marvel released issue #81 of Star Wars where we learn that the Sarlacc did not like the taste of Boba Fett, spit him out and as he lay on the dunes of Tatooine, being covered in sand and Sarlacc spit, he was eventually dug out by the Jawa’s who thought he was a robot of some sort.  Han is in pursuit of the Jawa’s that stole R2-D2 happen to also be the creatures that dug up Boba Fett.

During the chase, Han runs into the bounty hunter who has lost his memory after his time being digested by the all-mighty Sarlacc.  During the events, Boba and Han find themselves in a similar situation as they did during Return of the Jedi, at that moment Boba remembers who Han is and precedes to attack, all while Han is trying to free him from the out of control Sandcrawler.  The story ends with Boba not escaping the vehicle as it’s swallowed yet again by the Sarlacc.

2. Star Wars Dark Empire #4

Published in 1992 and takes place 10 ABY, Written by Rom Veitch and art by Cam Kennedy, in Issue #4 of the Star Wars Dark Empire saga we get another glimpse into the survival of Boba Fett.  6 years after Return of the Jedi, Han Solo runs into Boba, shocked that he’s alive, Boba responds “The Sarlacc found me somewhat indigestible, SOLO”.  This falls in line along with the story of Marvel Star Wars #81.  He must of escaped from that sand crawler!

3. Tag & Bink Are Dead #2

Published in 2001, taking place 4 ABY written by Kevin Rubio and art by Lucas Marangon. Right before Return of the Jedi, Tag and Bink are helping Lando in the rescue of Han Solo from the clutches of the evil Jabba the Hutt.  During those rescue plans, Tag and Bink are being harassed by Boba Fett, a smooth Lando knocks Boba out, and Tag steals Boba’s armor.

At the battle of carcoon, Tag (dressed as Boba) attempts to help out, Luke thinking it’s really Boba, Luke slices Boba’s blaster with his light saber, then a blind Han Solo knocks the backpack of Tag and he falls into the Sarlacc (Sound familiar?). Bink, worried for his friend shoots Luke’s hand in anger, and the rest of the events happen as you remember.  Tag and Bink are rescued by Boba’s ex girlfriend in hopes to lure out the bounty hunter.

4. The Revenge of Tag & Bink Star Wars Tales #12

Published in 2002 and also taking place 4 ABY. Again written by Kevin Rubio but this time art is by Rick Zombo, The adventures of Tag and Link are further discussed in Star Wars Tales #12 from 2002.  During the story, Tag and Bink are caught by Boba Fett after stealing his armor.  The bounty hunter decides to throw Tag and Bink into the Sarlacc for their actions.

The two get caught in the gullet of the Sarlacc and remain there until the battle of carcoon where in order to get out, they catch Boba’s jet pack as he falls into the pit.  In the end, they escape and decide to rescue Boba – in the end they decide not to speak of these events in order to protect Boba street credit.

5. A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett

Published December 1995 in “Tales from Jabba’s Palace” written by J.D. Montgomery. A Barve Like That is a short story that takes place between 4-5 ABY.  The story describes in detail that Boba wakes up within the belly of the all mighty Sarlacc.  The bounty hunter makes contact with one of the Sarlacc’s victims via telepathy.  Convincing the Sarlacc to compress Boba’s jett pack until it explodes, Boba takes the opportunity to let loose concussion grenades blowing a hole through the gullet and allowing Boba to escape.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, 5 times that the bounty hunter Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc Pit.  Personally, I feel the original story from 1983 is an excellent companion to what we witnessed on “The Book of Boba Fett” but I ask you, which is your favorite?  Leave a comment below to let us know!
