Calamity Comics You Never Know #1-2 comic cover

The name "Calamity Comics" came to Elliott and Alicia sitting at their local comic shop looking out the window on a rainy day as they were workshopping names. The meaning behind "Calamity Comics" comes from breaking up the word "calamity" into "call" and "amity." Within times of calamity there is often a call to amity by someone suffering, calling out hoping for better times to come. Combining this creates "Calamity," hence Calamity Comics was born. We stand as a beacon of hope for those suffering in silence that even though things may seem bad, there is always amity to be found.

As a company, we know what it's like to need support during a time of darkness, and that's why our mission is to write stories for those suffering in silence. Even though we don’t know what others are going through, we care all the same. Whatever someone may be going through, we want you to always remember: you are not alone, and you are loved.

Elliott Mondry is a co-owner of and head writer at Calamity Comics. He is a Chicago- based lawyer, writer and the owner of EJM Publishing LLC. He’s passionate about
helping others through storytelling and believes visual mediums are an incredible way to make a difference in people’s lives. When he’s not practicing law or writing, you can find Elliott lifting weights, training for his next marathon or planning yet another Disney trip.

Alicia Madden is a co-owner of and head illustrator at Calamity Comics. She is a self-taught illustrator who lives in Chicago's Far North Side. Her artistic style is influenced by DC comics, American animation and German Expressionism; as well as artists like Charles Dana Gibson, Jhonen Vasquez and Henry Darger.
