What is a Splash Page in a comic book?
When it comes to comic books, a splash page is a page dominated by one single image or panel, often filling the entirety of the page or spanning across multiple pages. Splash pages, are extensive picture-containing sections present in comic books that cover most or all of a page, and sometimes even two consecutive pages.
Maintaining the rhythm of a comic is crucial, and typically, the introductory and final pages (which align with the title page and cliffhanger) will feature them quite prominently.
Splash panels serve the crucial role of amplifying the intensity of a moment. Whether it is an unveiling that takes one’s breath away, a character’s grand entrance, a picturesque view or structure, an electrifying combat sequence, or any other scenario, the primary objective remains the same. Nonetheless, their overuse could serve as one of the causes behind Decompressed Comics.
