Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles X Godzilla Issue # 1 Preview
IDW comics announced this year at San Diego Comic Con that finally they would be crossing over their two largest properties; the TMNT and Godzilla. This is the first time Godzilla, a licensed property from IDW, has crossed over with another Licensed property already under the IDW comics banner.
Writer for the series is recent He-man X TMNT crossover scribe Tim Seeley, and collaborating is artist Fero Pe , who besides his work on the IDW TMNT series, has recently worked on the Stranger Things X TMNT crossover as well.
With a release date of October/November 2025, I was able to get an advanced look at the book and see how the story turned out. I can say with my spoiler free review that fans of both will be excited to see what happens.
Starting off the story sets the tone similar to a Kaiju story, with some backstory that integrates a different take on our normal Foot Clan. This story has an origin story that is similar to the Naruto X TMNT crossover, which is a hybrid of the IDW TMNT series, mixed with some of the Cartoon series as well. You will definitely notice a blend of the characters origins right away, and I think that will set this apart as a separate universe where they can play with the characters a bit more than in the standard IDW universe.
One of the best things a writer a can do with a crossover is show from the get go that they understand who the characters are, and with strong characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and of course Godzilla too) this book is off to a great start. Maintaining the integrity and motivations of the Turtles, Splinter and April, the story becomes a compelling origin story that interweaves the past of both Godzilla and the TMNT Universe.
With some surprise cameos from the TMNT camp, and a cast of more than a few very large characters from the Tohoverse, this seems like a match that was destined to happen with how well the plot involves both of the main properties.
With an already leaked action figure line showing up online, there seems to be a predictable direction that the story is heading, but with issue 1, we have the stage set for some Kaiju vs Turtle action.

My final thoughts, I think this is a really unique take on the two properties. After reading the Godzilla story by Tim Seeley in Godzilla vs Chicago, I think he displays his understanding for the character and meshes that with his understanding of the TMNT character voices that we saw in the He Man crossover last year. Seeley is never short on humor and it’s a pleasure to see where he takes the Turtles from their normal day to day battles with evil Mutants and Dimension X Brains to what their reactions to seeing Godzilla would be like.
The artwork is impeccable, and Fero Pe is an absolute master style-bender who fits in just as well with Giant Monsters and Mutant Turtles. This is a beautiful looking book that is more than worth the $4.99 cover price, and the surprises for who shows up and how they are used really got me excited as a reader. Lastly, I think you have to credit the colorist Luis Antonio Delgado with a lot for this story as well. The vibrant colors and the muted tones in different parts of the story help set the stage for those “Shell-Yeah” moments, and I think that color is a key part of this story.
Part of the fun for this book will no doubt be the variant covers, which have already started to showcase a diverse take on both the turtles and Godzilla.
